Chappie is a Dev Mode only extension, so this does not add anything to your production application.
To use chappie, you need to configure it with either an OpenAI Compatible Service or have Ollama running locally. You can configure it in Dev UI.

You can make changes to the Chappie server and test this with this extension.
- Clone https://github.com/chappie-bot/chappie-server
- Build the chappie server with
mvn clean install -Dquarkus.profile=chappie - Change this chappie-extension to use chappie server version 999-SNAPSHOT
In https://github.com/quarkiverse/quarkus-chappie/blob/main/runtime-dev/pom.xml, changechappie-server.versionto999-SNAPSHOT - Everytime you make a change in the server, you need to rebuild the extension to pull in the new version.
Windows Users: RAG Requirement
If you're running on Windows and want RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) capabilities, you need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for the ONNX Runtime (used by the BGE embedding model).
Download: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
Without this redistributable:
- The server will start successfully
- RAG will be automatically disabled (you'll see a clear message in the logs)
- AI assistance will still work (just without documentation lookup)
With the redistributable installed:
- Full RAG capabilities enabled
- Documentation-aware AI assistance
