  2. Download the project files
On the GitHub page, look for a green button that says Code. Click it.
Then click Download ZIP. This will save a zipped file containing the entire project to your computer.

  3. Locate the downloaded ZIP file
By default, the ZIP file goes to your Downloads folder. Open File Explorer and find the file named something like Itz-murali.github.io-main.zip.

  4. Extract the ZIP file
Right-click on the ZIP file and select Extract All....
Choose a destination folder you can easily access, like your Desktop or Documents.
Click Extract. This will create a folder with all the website files.

  5. Open the portfolio in your browser
Open the folder where you extracted the files.
    Find the file named index.html.
Double-click this file. It will open in your default web browser.
You should now see the portfolio website appear.

πŸ›  How to Customize the Website

If you want to change the content, look, or behavior of the site, here are simple ways to start:

  • HTML files hold the content and structure, like text, images, and links. Edit these with a text editor such as Notepad or more advanced editors like VS Code or Notepad++.

  • CSS files control how the website looks. You can change colors, fonts, sizes, and layouts here.

  • JavaScript files add interactive features. You can add or modify scripts here to change how the site behaves.

You do not need any special tools to view the site, but editing the files requires a basic text editor.

❓ Troubleshooting

If you don’t see the website after opening index.html, check the following:

  • Make sure you extracted all files from the ZIP, not just the single HTML file.

  • Confirm you used a modern browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Opera.

  • Ensure your browser allows loading local files. Most default settings allow this.

If the site looks different than expected, try refreshing the browser window or clearing the cache.

πŸ”„ Updating the Portfolio

To get the latest version of the portfolio, repeat the download steps. The GitHub page will have any changes or improvements.

βš™οΈ Optional: Hosting Your Portfolio Online

Currently, you are running the site locally on your computer. If you want others to see your portfolio, you can upload it to a hosting service, such as:

  • GitHub Pages (free for public repositories)
  • Netlify
  • Vercel
  • Your own web hosting provider

These services take the files you downloaded and make them available on the internet.

πŸ“ Folder Structure Overview

When you open the downloaded folder, expect to see something like this:

  • index.html – the main page of the portfolio
  • css/ – folder containing stylesheets
  • js/ – folder containing JavaScript files
  • images/ – folder for any pictures used in the site
  • Other supporting files and folders used by the website

πŸ’‘ Tips for Using the Portfolio Files

  • Always keep a backup copy of your original download before making changes.

  • Edit files using a plain text editor or code editor for best results.

  • Refresh the browser after changes to see updates.

  • If you add new images, place them in the images folder and update the HTML files accordingly.

  • The website will work offline once you open the files in your browser.
